Internet TV only shows coming to mainstream TV

PC TV only shows coming to Regular TV

You may have thought that the idea of internet tv replacing television as the core of your home entertainment setup was impossible, but things have changed and its now commonplace seeing groups gathering around YouTube and other video sites or swapping viral clips from Big Brother or Americas got talent instead of watching the whole thing on TV.

The reasons for this miraculous change are the ever faster and cheaper broadband speeds that make internet TV viable and the fact that its now easy to turn your giant plasma TV into a pc monitor. In fact many new TV’s come with web browsers included.

The TV networks in the USA are also jumping into internet tv in a big way. Comedic dude Will Ferrell has an internet TV website Funnyordie.com and has announced a $10million deal with HBO and has stated that i don’t want to overstate the importance of this deal, but this is the missing link moment where TV and internet finally merge. It will change the way we as human beings perceive and interact with reality. OK, I overstated it. But it is an exciting deal.

Several internet only shows are beeing picked up by the networks too. Quarterlife, by the makers of thirtysomething, was snapped up by NBC even though the opening show had low ratings and was transferred over to Bravo instead. Another major internet tv show Sanctuary, currently holding the record for most expensive internet TV show at $4.5million is also due to be shown by the Sci-Fi Channel.

British TV companies are less adventurous. Five bought Bebo’s online drama Sofia’s Diary, but only to run unaltered on digital channel Fiver as snack TV. BBC Three is finally showing Adam Buxton’s MeeBox this week, which is based on sketches he has been trying out on his own YouTube mini-channel, but his blog betrays frustration at the long wait.

Internet TV series are also much more adventurous and cutting edge. The first Kate Modern happening invited fans to attend an art gallery. The fans that showed up were involved in an exciting kidnap storyline. Since then subsequent happenings have attracted thousands. The final episode on June 28 will let fans chat to the actors online between the episodes, and even affect the plot. Several alternatives will be filmed in advance.

Internet tv brings an exciting and interactive twist to watching TV, it is convenient, on demand, is low cost to make and a growing new industry. Maybe now is the time to start your own internet tv series?
